Donald Trump is not the first U.S. president in my lifetime to try and force open the seventh seal in the Middle East. With Stephen Miller at the helm, they just might be able to do it.

Trump touted a potential final solution for his and Israel’s war with Iran, and though he definitely never says the “n-word,” we all know he’s flirting with nuking Iran.

It’s hard to believe one man could topple our entire system of governance and consolidate power within a year. Nevertheless, it’s time to snap out of the delusion and reject the gaslighting. Trump’s holy war in Iran is going to cost us more than we’ll ever really be able to account for.

When asked about the effects of the French Revolution a hundred years later, historian Will Durant said it was still too early to tell. We will never be able to calculate the immense loss already incurred by Trump’s illegal war against Iran.

We bombed a school with hundreds of Iranian children. Any one of them could have been a doctor saving lives, a scientist improving technology, or a teacher educating kids.

If God did judge the Earth, would they not judge dictators who rape, torture and kill the harshest? What exactly does the average American like you or I have to worry about in such a case? But of course, there is no mythical deity coming to save us.

We understand the truth because we’ve seen it before--our government has attacked the Middle East numerous times in our generation alone, and under such guises as the so-called War on Terror.

Smedley Butler had perhaps the most succinct assessment in the history of humanity when he titled his book, War is a Racket. After fighting our wars in Philippines, China, and Central America, Butler wrote, “I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.”

Operation Iraqi Freedom began March 19, 2003, and in a stunning, perverse moment of clairvoyance, a senior British official stated, “Everyone wants to go to Baghdad. Real men want to go to Tehran.” The Neoconservatives who convinced Bush Jr. to open the gates of hell in Iraq in 2003 have been granted their greatest and longest-held wish with Trump.

Civilization began in the fertile crescent of the Middle East, and if it were to end there, perhaps nothing could be more human.

Binding your Zine

A long-arm stapler is the easiest way to bind your zine. Whether you can find one may be the hardest part.

Arrange your zine pages in sequence, then fold in half. Staple the spine in 2 or 3 spots, with equidistant spacing. Doing so with the outside cover shown as in the image, keeps the flat side of the staples on the exposed side of the spine.

With a standard stapler, simply lightly fold one side inward and staple away.

Disseminating your Zine

Be responsible when disseminating your zine. Don’t let it become litter. It’s a great resource to share with motivated allies who need a frame of reference and preliminary guidance.

Have you gathered your Loyal Nine yet? This zine can be a great starting point for putting together your trusted group; remember that real resistance is ground-up and grassroots.

Protests are natural settings to disseminate zines but be aware: physical media like zines pertaining to resistance are currently being used as evidence in federal lawsuits against “antifa” defendants.

But don’t let abuses of power deter you from exercising your rights!

Mainstream media is giddy now given their opportunity to disengage the Trump-Epstein debacle in favor of beating the drums of war once more. Wall Street Journal is framing Trump’s assassination of Iran’s leaders via airstrikes as a “rare opportunity,” as if serendipity plays any role here.

They’ve named it Operation Epic Fury; Trump launched joint military attacks against Iran after short, performative negotiations, killing dozens if not hundreds of Iranians within hours, including a sizeable number of Iranian leaders.

The operation being blatantly illegal according to both US and international law seems to be lost on most of mainstream media in addition to Congress, as there has been no immediate response to stop or even curb Trump’s war.

The initial 48 hours incurred 4 deaths of US military, and since the Pentagon is anticipating 4 weeks of sustained military operations, we are on trajectory for losing more than 50 Americans and untold numbers of people in Iran, Israel, Dubai, Kuwait, and more.

So far, Iran’s retaliation has been measured and strategic. Alex Plitsas, Head of the Counterterrorism Project in the Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative and former counterterrorism official in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, calls it “an effort to calibrate responses proportionally rather than ignite a broader regional war. The coming days will reveal whether decapitation yields escalation, fragmentation, or a recalibrated balance of deterrence.”

Public statements by Trump and Republicans imply discombobulation at either the strategic or public level:

Trump says he doesn’t want US occupation of Iran, seemingly believing everything will work itself out organically. Jon Karl says Trump told him, “The attack was so successful it knocked out most of the candidates,” confirming their regime change intentions.

Anna Paulina Luna (R FL) claims the operation is not a war, citing a personal conversation with Marco Rubio despite Pete Hegseth justifying the 4 US deaths by pronouncing, “we don’t waste lives. War is hell and always will be.”

Step 6: Build parallel structures when existing official channels fail.

When Congress won’t act, when courts are captured, when institutions have been made unresponsive — you build around them. The Underground Railroad addressed the symptoms of slavery by getting people out, even when it couldn’t address the root cause. The Boston Vigilance Committee built community protection systems outside of law enforcement.

Questions to ask about parallel structures:

• What does our community need that official channels are no longer providing?

• What can we provide for ourselves through mutual aid?

• What legal, financial, or practical support can we organize locally?

• What early warning systems can we build in our immediate community?

Step 7: Sustain Through the Ebbs

Samuel Adams watched the colonial resistance collapse every time Britain made a concession. People went home. He had to keep writing, keep building, keep articulating why the structural abuse hadn’t actually changed. Every resistance movement has ebbs and flows. The ones that succeed are built on structures that can withstand the ebbs — because the network, the trust, and the articulated goals were built before the crisis peaked.

Nothing happens quickly. Resistance is almost a way of life, not a moment.

Step 8: Escalate Strategically

If protest alone isn’t working and the authority is unresponsive, don’t just do more protest. Move to organized opposition. If organized opposition through existing channels is failing, build parallel channels and consider direct action. Each escalation should be deliberate, based on a clear assessment of whether the previous step is actually working.

The escalation test:

• Is the authority responsive to this action? If not, escalating is appropriate.

• Have we clearly articulated what we are for, not just what we are against?

• Do we have the organized base to support the next level of action?

• Are we addressing root causes or just symptoms?

Navigating Technology

How Technology Helps and Hurts

Technology accelerates both sides. Surveillance enables abusive authority to track and preempt resistance. Disinformation spreads faster than truth. But independent communication networks, encrypted apps, and rapid information sharing are powerful tools for organizing

The Good

• Decentralized, encrypted communication platforms and apps.

  • Briar, Moss

• Easily accessible hi-res cameras for documentation.

• Alternative comms options like mesh networks and LoRa.

• High impact social media for information dissemination.

• LLM leverage for research, organization, and content creation.

• Global financial access with apps to send and receive money.

The Bad

• Flock Cams record faces and license plates to track you.

• All social media, including DMs, are now actively monitored by FBI and DHS.

• Law enforcement and military are being integrated with AI.

• Billionaire ownership of media restricts info, propagates lies.

• ICE and other Federal LEOs scan your face, copy your phone to intimidate observers.

• FBI can frivolously label you as a terror threat and disrupt your banking or target you with lawsuits.

Media Literacy as a Resistance Skill

The committees of correspondence were created specifically because the existing information infrastructure wasn’t trustworthy. Today, media literacy isn’t optional — it’s foundational. Abusive authority deploys misinformation 24/7. Your ability to distinguish truth from manufactured reality, and to help your community do the same, is one of the most concrete contributions you can make.

Be Responsible & Aware

• Verify before sharing. One false story can discredit an entire network.

• Build a curated set of trusted sources. Know their limitations.

• Name misinformation when you see it, specifically and calmly.

• Understand that manufactured confusion is a deliberate tactic, not just noise.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Magic Bullet Thinking

No single action is sufficient. Not protest alone, not lawsuits alone, not electoral action alone, not direct action alone. The history of American resistance shows that effective movements combine multiple forms of action, escalate when needed, and sustain through failures. Anyone offering a single solution is either naive or selling something.

Confusing Protest for Resistance

Protest is one element of a process. It is not the process. If protest is your only tool, or if you mistake a large protest for achieved resistance, you will be surprised when it doesn’t produce change. Use protest for what it’s designed to do — articulate grievances clearly and build initial solidarity — and then build on it.

National Focus at the Expense of Local Action

Congress is not going to save you. National political figures are not your vanguard. Real resistance leadership is emerging from community-level organizers. Get off the national news cycle and invest in your local networks. That is where the actual work happens.

Accepting Concessions as Victory

Samuel Adams watched his movement collapse every time Britain made a partial concession. When abusive authority makes a small concession, evaluate whether the structural abuse has actually changed. If it hasn’t, the concession is a tactic, not a resolution.

Isolation

The American Revolution required connecting Boston to Salem to Worcester to Cambridge to Lexington — and then to the other colonies. Isolated communities of resistance cannot generate the scale needed to push back against consolidated authority. Build your local network first, then invest in connecting it to others.

Lesson 3: Resistance is a process, not a moment.

1765-1775, the American resistance that made independence possible was built entirely through gradual, organized local action. John Adams called it a revolution in the hearts and minds of Americans — accomplished before a single shot was fired at Lexington and Concord. It started with nine men in a Boston pub (the Loyal Nine, who became the Sons of Liberty) and expanded block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood, town by town.

Samuel Adams understood this. The British made concessions — repealing the Stamp Act, rolling back Townshend duties — the broader resistance would then collapse. Adams had to keep writing and building because the structural abuse hadn’t changed. Resistance requires sustaining effort through the ebbs and flows.

The pattern from 1765 to 1775:

1. Identify and clearly articulate specific grievances

2. Find others who share those grievances; build local solidarity

3. Organize town by town, then connect the towns

4. Create Committees of Correspondence — independent information networks

5. Build parallel structures when official channels are captured

6. Sustain the effort even when authority makes temporary concessions

Lesson 4: Purity Tests Undermine Resistance

Black Loyalists during the American Revolution didn’t share all of the Patriots’ values — and the Patriots didn’t share theirs. But both groups could act in ways that served their own resistance goals. The lesson: allies don’t have to share your complete worldview. What matters is whether a shared action serves your resistance objectives.

Here are some key, strategic distinctions:

• Friends share your values. Allies share your immediate goal. Both are useful; don’t confuse or conflate them.

• Someone telling you they support you but disagree with your methods or pace may not actually be speaking for your interests.

• Ask about actions, not ideology: does this person’s participation advance the concrete goal?

Lesson 5: Fight for every inch, even when you can’t win everything

The Anti-Federalists couldn’t stop the Constitution. But by fighting every step of the ratification process, they forced the concession of the Bill of Rights. Patrick Henry effectively terrified James Madison — who had called rights protections “parchment barriers” — into becoming their champion. Almost every major expansion of human rights and liberty in American history has come from resistance to authority, not from the authority itself.

Don’t walk away because total victory is unavailable. The concession you force today creates the foundation for future victories.

Lesson 6: The Boston Vigilance Committee Model (1850s)

When the Fugitive Slave Act compelled Northern compliance with slavery, abolitionists didn’t just protest. They built parallel community protection systems. When slave catchers came for William and Ellen Craft in Boston, the community organized to harass federal marshals, provide legal defense, and create early warning systems. Church bells rang whenever a slave catcher appeared on the street.

In Minneapolis today, community members use car alarms to alert neighborhoods when ICE agents are present. The structure is identical. The principle is: when official channels are captured by abusive authority, build your own channels.

What to do Now

Step 1: Start With Yourself

Before anything else: what can you do? What is your capacity, your skill set, your network, your time? Resistance is not one-size-fits-all. Find your lane and work it. A lawyer provides legal aid. A teacher builds civic literacy. A neighbor watches out for their neighbors. None of these is more or less valid than any other.

Step 2: Distill your grievance to its clearest, most compelling form.

Generalized anger is not a grievance. “No Kings” is a feeling; it is not yet a strategy. Look at your protest signs: can someone read them and identify what specific abuse is being named? The clearer and more specific your articulation of the problem, the more effectively others can organize around it.

Test your grievance articulation:

• Can you state the specific abuse in one sentence?

• Can you identify who is directly harmed and how?

• Can you identify the specific mechanism of abuse (law, policy, action)?

• Can you state what specific change would address it?

Step 3: Build Local, Then Connect

The American Revolution began with nine guys in a Boston pub. Don’t try to build a national movement first. Build your block. Build your neighborhood. Build your town. Then connect to other towns. This is how it actually works.

Practical starting points:

• Identify 5-10 people in your immediate community who share the specific grievance.

• Meet regularly. Build trust. You can only act through people you trust.

• Map what your community can actually do: school board, town council, local ordinances, HOA.

• Identify which local structures can be reshaped to provide support for resistance goals.

• Connect your local network to other local networks doing the same work.

Step 4: Know What Is Actually Happening (Build Your Information Network)

Inter-colonial Committees of Correspondence, 1772. Samuel Adams and Richard Henry Lee believed accurate information about British actions was not reaching patriots in other colonies quickly enough. They built an independent network to share information in a timely and accurate way so that they could act on it.

Today’s equivalent: a curated, trusted network of people who can verify what is happening and act on it. Encrypted messaging apps, Signal groups, trusted local journalists, legal observer networks. Be ruthless about information quality.

Step 5: Support the people doing the work.

Real resistance leadership is not coming from national platforms or cable news. It is coming from people on the ground doing specific, practical things: providing legal aid, organizing community mutual aid, documenting abuses, running local canvassing operations.

Find these people.

Fund them.

Amplify them.

Connect them to your network.

Part 1 Text

Are you ready to resist?

This guide distills the core historical framework and practical lessons from public historian Tad Stoermer’s recent talk on civil resistance to abuses of authority. Drawing on more than 350 years of American history—from Metacomet in 1676 to the abolitionist networks of the 1850s—it translates what has actually worked, and what hasn’t, into practical strategies you must deploy TODAY OR VERY SOON!

The Foundation

From where does authority originate?

In a democracy, all authority flows from the consent of the governed. Those entrusted with that authority are obligated to use it to benefit the people who granted it. That authority is on loan — it can be recalled.

This is not a right of revolution focused solely on abolition. It is a right of alteration — a process of pushing back when authority is abused, especially when it is used to benefit a narrow group at the expense of the broader public.

Protest vs Opposition vs Resistance

Protest is the articulation of grievance. Protest is effective when:

1. Your grievance is clear and compelling

2. Authority responds

3. Protest becomes opposition

Taking the collective energy from protest and making it functional. This means organizing alliances, leveraging shared resources, working through courts, legislatures, and electoral channels. When those channels fail or are captured by abusive authority, the opposition must escalate — not repeat.

Resistance is the process by which abuse of authority is effectively pushed back against. True resistance can include:

1. Building parallel structures

2. Creating independent networks

3. Taking direct action

Resistance requires clear articulation of both what you oppose and what you stand for.

The Two Choke Points for US Resistance

The Legal Barrier

The cultural pressure to stay within “permitted channels” (courts, elections, legislation) even when those channels have been captured or are unresponsive. Going outside these channels is labeled dangerous or illegitimate — even when the authority itself is the problem.

The Moral Barrier

The cultural prohibition on direct action — doing whatever it takes to compel change when persuasion has failed and underground activity is insufficient. Very few American resistance movements have reached this point. When they have, it required enormous collective will.

Few resistance movements in US history have surmounted these barriers (e.g. John Brown).

John Brown and the Two Choke Points

John Brown is the most unambiguous example in American history of a resistance actor who consciously crossed both barriers. He did not cross them in a moment of passion — he crossed them deliberately, after years of organizing, after watching legal abolitionism fail to compel change, and after concluding that the system was structurally unwilling to address slavery through permitted channels.

At Harpers Ferry in 1859, Brown led an armed raid on a federal armory intending to trigger a slave rebellion across the South. He had cleared the Legal Barrier — he operated entirely outside courts, legislatures, and electoral channels — and the Moral Barrier — he took direct violent action against federal property with the explicit goal of compelling change by force.

He failed tactically. He was captured, tried, and hanged. But his execution had the opposite of its intended effect: it galvanized the abolitionist movement, helped fracture the Democratic Party, and accelerated the sequence of events leading to the Civil War and emancipation. The structural change he died for came six years later.

The lesson is not that violence works. It is that Brown represents the outer boundary of what “surmounting the choke points” actually looks like in practice — and how rare, costly, and morally contested that boundary is.

The Physics of Resistance

Partial victories matter. The Bill of Rights was not what the Anti-Federalists wanted — they wanted a second Constitutional Convention. They couldn’t get that. But by fighting every step of the way, they extracted a concession that has shaped American rights for centuries. Fighting for every inch, even when total victory is out of reach, is itself a form of resistance.

Lessons from History

Lesson 1: Real Resistance VS False Prophets

Metacomet (King Philip’s War, 1676) represents authentic resistance: he went through every legitimate channel first, was repeatedly failed by the colonial authorities, and only escalated when all other options were exhausted.

Nathaniel Bacon (Bacon’s Rebellion, 1676) used the language of resistance and grievance — but he was exploiting people’s concerns to serve his own interests.

Are you following a sincere actor?

How to spot false resistance leadership:

• They use your grievances to build their own power rather than address the root cause.

• They offer simple, emotional narratives without concrete plans.

• They are not accountable to the communities they claim to represent.

• They escalate conflict in ways that benefit themselves, not the people harmed.

Lesson 2: All resistance begins with truth.

The Salem witch trials (1692) demonstrate the foundational tool of all abusive authority: lying. The court shaped reality — using fabricated “spectral evidence” — to justify its power. The people who refused to confess to witchcraft they didn’t commit, knowing it meant death, are among the most important figures in American resistance history.

What this means in practice:

• Do not assent to lies to make things easier. Compliance expands abuse.

• Verify your information independently. Build and maintain reliable information networks.

• The ability to distinguish truth from manufactured reality is a core resistance skill.

• Supporting the truth is the foundation everything else rests on.

Abolition is the only solution, as reform will only lead to slightly less kidnappings, rapes, and murders by ICE and federal agents.

Democrats are making such a push at this moment, despite 7 House Democrats voting to hand even more tax dollars over to ICE. Even in such tumultuous times as these, calling your representatives and senators, daily, while you help others in your circle do the same, is a crucial part of what remains of our democracy. So DO IT!

If we do not seize the momentum of this moment, Trump will use ICE as his personal paramilitary gang, and they will be deployed to disrupt and interfere with the 2026 midterm elections.
